Planning
The National Park Authority is now the area’s planning authority for local plans and development control. Structure plans remain the responsibility of the four local authorities, Argyll & Bute, Perth & Kinross, Stirling and West Dunbartonshire.
Planning Applications
All planning applications in the National Park should be made to the National Park Authority, which will decide to either grant or refuse consent. Click here for further details.
National Park Plan
The National Parks (Scotland) Act 2000 requires the Park Authority to prepare a National Park Plan, which will focus on the strategic management of the park and therefore include a much wider range of issues than planning alone.
A draft National Park Plan was published for consultation in May 2005. A revised and amended Plan was submitted to Scottish Ministers in December 2006. Click on National Park Plan in the menu on the left of this page for further details.
Development Plans
A development plan is made up of two parts, the structure plan and the local plan. They show how much and where development may take place and where it is unlikely to be allowed.
Development plans are the basis for decisions on planning applications. They contain policies for the future development and use of land in an area. Plans can cover a wide range of issues such as housing, transport, employment, shopping, recreation and conserving and protecting the countryside.
Structure plans
Structure plans take a long-term view of development, considering its general scale and broadly where it should be located
The four local authorities will continue to prepare structure plans covering the park area.

Local plans
Local plans set out more detailed policies and proposals to guide development.
